Tropicality

Happy New Year!

I took a bit of a vacation from cakes over Christmas and the fist week of January as one of my best friends was in town to play a concert, and he stayed at our house. It was so great to see him again!

Anyway, we are back to work! A friend ordered some "tropical" cupcakes for her co-worker's last day. The photo she sent me had those cute paper parasols that are often found in fruity drinks. I went to 7 or 8 stores, but alas, apparently nobody in Saskatoon drinks fancy fruity drinks in the winter time. Not a parasol to be found. But I made some cute flowers (supposed to look a bit like hibiscus) in bright tropical colours and it worked out well!

The cupcakes are white cake. The flowers are royal icing. The frosting is buttercream.

The lighting in my house is a little yellowy...perhaps I should invest in some sort of photography lighting...

Sometimes having the flash on makes my photos weird colors too... I wonder if turning it off would have helped at all?

BTW: They were fabulous!

I am no photography expert, but my husband is pretty knowledgable and I have learned a few things from him. I would suggest playing around with, or seeing if your camera has any white balance settings. That might help to decrease the yellowy-ness.

The flowers are gorgeous and look very realistic :)
