Race Car Cake

I got a request last week for a race car cake! I was pretty excited because I've wanted to do a car for a long time. It turned out not so bad for my first try!

The concept (Dale Earnhardt Jr's car):

The cake (2 layers of vanilla and 1 layer of chocolate - iced and filled with cream cheese icing):

The car:
I left off all of the advertisements. Especially since it would have taken forever!!!

The spoiler:
The spoiler was my favorite part! I made it out of gum paste and it made the car into a race car

Montreal Canadiens Cake & Cupcakes

From the Buffalo Sabres cake & cupcakes that I made last month, I got an order for a Montreal Canadiens cake & cupcakes.

The cake is chocolate and the icing is buttercream. The jerseys and logo are fondant.

Gotta Love My Job!

I love my day job, but I LOVE my side job! Last week I tested a new recipe and it is my favorite one yet! Lemon cake with lemon cream cheese icing.

I decided to make a little 6" test cake and decorate it in a more traditional wedding style to practice piping. I also got some pre-made Satin Ice fondant and I had to try it out. I've been making marshmallow fondant for my cakes previously because Wilton fondant is yucky! But Satin Ice is really quite good and really easy to work with.

I could have eaten the whole cake myself!!!

Buffalo Sabres Cake & Cupcakes

Time for the SIGA MIS Department's monthly birthday cake again! This month's lucky birthday boy was Dean. Dean is a huge Buffalo Sabres fan so Dale came up with the idea to make cupcakes with the retired Sabre's jerseys on them. I decided to also make a 6" cake with the Sabre's logo on it. Since Dean doesn't like the newer logo, I did a classic logo.

The whole package turned out to be one of my favorite cakes!

Left to Right: Tim Horton, Rick Martin, Gilbert Perreault, Birthday Boy - #1!, Rene Robert, Pat LaFontaine, Danny Gare

The cake and cupcakes were cookies n' cream. The icing was a fluffy white meringue-like icing.

The jerseys and cake logo were dried fondant cut to shape with royal icing piping.
