CompuCake 5000

It was that time again. Time for the SIGA MIS Department's monthly birthday cake. This month they requested "something computery", so after thinking whether I should go literal or figurative with that, I decided I'd go as literal as I could and make an actual computer. And since I can't imagine how I would build a nice flat screen monitor out of cake for the price they pay me every month...I decided to go for an "old fashioned" IBM computer.

I love that you can see our bowl of remaining Christmas candy on the table behind it...those apple raspberry candy canes are fantastic...

Tropicality

Happy New Year!

I took a bit of a vacation from cakes over Christmas and the fist week of January as one of my best friends was in town to play a concert, and he stayed at our house. It was so great to see him again!

Anyway, we are back to work! A friend ordered some "tropical" cupcakes for her co-worker's last day. The photo she sent me had those cute paper parasols that are often found in fruity drinks. I went to 7 or 8 stores, but alas, apparently nobody in Saskatoon drinks fancy fruity drinks in the winter time. Not a parasol to be found. But I made some cute flowers (supposed to look a bit like hibiscus) in bright tropical colours and it worked out well!

The cupcakes are white cake. The flowers are royal icing. The frosting is buttercream.

The lighting in my house is a little yellowy...perhaps I should invest in some sort of photography lighting...
